Disciplinary proceedings against former CIPFA member, Mr Stephen Nisbet of Watergate, Perth, were concluded in November 2007.
Mr Nisbet held office as the Treasurer of an unincorporated lottery association (‘the Association’), which had as its main activity the provision of a monthly payroll lottery for the employees of the participating bodies and the distribution of the proceeds of that lottery to charitable causes.
The Institute’s Disciplinary Committee determined that Mr Nisbet had failed to comply with CIPFA’s Standards of Professional Practice and was guilty of misconduct in that he failed to:

A major recruitment drive to find the town hall finance chiefs of the future has got underway in the capital. Fifteen London boroughs have joined forces to find the best candidates to train as local government accountants. The campaign, now in its fourth year, is organised by the Society of London Treasurers and the accountancy body CIPFA.
Competition for the places is fierce and applications have to be received by 13 January 2008. With the initial recruitment process taking place online, applicants have to have a minimum of a 2:2 degree in any subject.

Local authorities are to prepare their accounts following International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) from 1 April 2010, it has been announced.
A two year programme to develop and implement a new IFRS-based code of practice for local authority accounting is now underway, the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy has revealed. The timetable is intended to ensure councils have sufficient time to prepare for this significant change to the basis on which they produce their accounts. Three members for the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) have been recognised in the New Year’s Honours List.
- A CBE was awarded to Alex Linkston, Chief Executive of West Lothian Council, for services to local government.
- Alastair MacNish, lately Chair of the Accounts Commission for Scotland, received an OBE for services to local government.
- An OBE was also awarded to David Peat, Chief Executive of East Lancashire PCT, for services to the NHS.
