CTA E Assessments

Postby ch2008 » Tue Oct 12, 2010 5:24 pm

I have decided to undertake the CTA and wonder how other study for the E-Assessments.

Do BPP or Kaplan produce study texts for these or is it best to take the courses at one of the centres?

You'll need the text book 'Essential law for the chartered tax advisor' obtainable from CIOT for the law assessment. For the ethics assessment, there is a variety of publications you need to be familiar with, available free of charge from the CIOT website.

TQT iPass CD's are an invaluable revision aid as these more or less reflect the actual exam style and questions.

Although the colleges offer courses for the eassessments, personally I think they are a waste of money.
Home study with the above materials should be sufficient to pass both of these.

I myself studied at home over 4 months (ethics - 45hrs, law - 75hrs) and cleared these papers back to back first time.

I have a law iPass CD for sale (used once) which is the second edition, valid for assessments from Feb 2010.
The price is £20 (RRP £35)

Hope this helps

These are do-able at home, but for law you need the sixth edition of the COT text and the related study materials. This edition was examinable from 1 March 2010 onwards, and a seventh edition is available for exams sat after 1 March 2011.

As well as BPP & Kaplan with the TQT materials, Tolleys Tax Training materials (hard copy &/or online) are also very good.

Good luck.
