I am 33 yr old and have been in Social Work for over 10 yrs. The pay sucks and I have no room for advancement at this point. I am making a career change and have always wanted to go into accounting. I have focused on taxation over the past year but am enrolled in the Spring for forensic accounting.

My question is it really worth it????????
Everyone is telling me that I AM CRAZY. The only support I have is a cousin who is an accountant and has a great job.

Can anyone give me their opinion on if I should pursue a second BA in forensic accounting???

Thanks,

From what I understand of it, FA is a really interesting area to get into, but I suppose it depends what tickles your fancy really

The beauty of Accounting is that once you understand it, there is a world of varied opportunities out there, so even if you do the FA route and it doesn’t work out, im sure there will be something else to turn your hand to

That’s surprising to hear that about social work.  My sister in law is a social worker and she’s well paid.  Taking a few overnights a month into the picture she earns nearly more than my wife and I put together.  Loads of people take career breaks and cut down their hours etc so there ought to be good opportunites for progression.  If you wish to cut hours down for any reason it seems easy to agree and it is damn good pay for part time work!  Add to that diverse workplaces such as residential, field-work, training or lecturing and NFP sector. There is surely a world of opportunity out there?

Experience is very valuable, so consider the effects of effectively losing what you have when moving to a new career.

Maybe if you could move into a management accounts position in your current field? You’d then be doing accountancy but have the advantage of current experience.
