Hi,

I was quoted £560 for P2 extended weekend revision course (revision + mock exam). Just wondering if anyone have any experience with this. Are they worth £560 (seems a bit too expensive to me)

Thanks

How many days tuition do you get for that excluding any time spent doing the mock exam?

I used to always go for the weekday revision courses because you got more tuition days for about the same cost. I think they up the cost of the weekend courses due to the increased staff costs and the increased demand. I always found them very useful, so long as you have grasped the basics of the course material. The best benefit, apart from the obvious, was coming out exhausted mentally, but being confident in knowing what I did know, and confident of the areas I needed to work on most.

They are usually quite fast paced, and if you’ve never opened a text book you would probably find it very hard going (and I’ve met people like those on these courses including for what is now F7, a student who didn’t know the basics of double entry.)

I would say: worth every penny depending on a tutor. If you are in London - Sally Baker is brilliant.

good luck

The courses run during Thur - Sun (4 days 9-5). £560 is a lot but based on your feebacks, I think I am gonna go for it. I want to avoid failing at all cost. I am also a little nervous because these (F8+P2) will be my first professional exams (due to exemption). The only question now is, whether I go for weekend course or weekdays?

Thanks

If both courses are the same length, then go for whichever is most convenient and suits your study style the best. I found some revision courses were less than two weeks before the exam which was too close for me. I felt I would only be left with a sense of panic over what I still needed to do and with little time in which to do it.

The revision courses are extremely useful, and for a home study student it’s good to find there are other students out there with the same questions and worries as you have.

In Glasgow Kaplan, the weekend courses were just that, Saturday and Sunday, with little price difference between that and a three day weekday course.

As part of your P2 study, it may be helpful to try some of the F7 past papers and see where your gaps are there. A good knowledge of the topic covered in F7 is essential for tackling P2. Try to get an up to date second hand revision kit if you can, as opposed to the papers on ACCA’s website, as the kit answers will be updated to include the latest changes in accounting standards (and there was a big change that affected consolidation around a year or so ago).

Good luck.
