Hi guys

Read this and thought it was interesting how over half (78%) of large financial sector organizations are planning to roll out more free software in 2010, according to Global Graphics.

It seems that Java Runtime Environment, Adobe Flash Player, QuickTime, OpenOffice, Google Docs and Skype are the favoured ones.

The main driver behind this decision is to reduce financial organisations software license costs…

Are people finding this happening in accountancies?

I guess Microsoft has a free accounting package though for single user and not too comprehensive.

Hey ... this is really interesting ... for me ... I thought big players always use paid custom-made products ... and we, guys like us, struggling in life use GDocs or Skype like products for a quick need ... but, interesting to hear that firms use free products ...  vampire

I think with the rise of Skype etc, firms are much more willing to use free software these days, whereas before, they were mistrustful of it. But they probably use these in conjunction with their tailor-made products that they pay for, don’t you think?

Speaking about Skype they have not only free software. As far as I know Skype has released new business solution called Skype Manager. All the free products have to be somehow monetized.
