Hello,

I am a UK Graduate, almost Part 2 qualified in ACCA (recieved no exemptions) studying in London.

I have self financed my ACCA Papers at my college at present. I will be starting 2 ACCA Papers from March 2010, Sage 50 Accounts course and Microsoft Office course as well.

I have a budget i would to put towards some practical training that will help me secure a role as a sales ledger, purchase ledger or credit controller. I do not have any relevant accountancy experience.

If anyone is working as a Sales Ledger, Purchase Ledger or Credit controller what extra (if any) courses/training would you reccommend me investing my money into?

I am based in London.
Many thanks

Hullo and welcome aboard.

What kind of experience do you have already?

I have worked in a general role that combined sales and purchases ledgers, including credit control and I found that there wasn’t really that much that needed to be studied.  Familiarity with the various software options, especially Sage but also Oracle and Pegasus which are often used, helps as does some basic bookkeeping.  I worked my way through the AAT in that role.

I’m currently working in a pure purchase ledger role (but in a more senior position) and all of my colleagues are either AAT members or graduates who are also in the early stages of ACCA or CIMA.  You don’t really need any more courses: just on-the-job experience.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply.

I have retail experience only, which i know will put many accountants off straight away.
I did a number of work experience placements for a few months but i was not progressing very far, purely placed within an admin role.
I have saved up money and would like to use it towards some structured practical training within an accounts firm.

I managed to track down a few accountants that offer practical training (for a fee).
I shall be visiting them soon.
