Hullo and welcome aboard.

You can find a lot of information about the ACCA from their website, http://www.accaglobal.com
Have a good read of their site to give yourself some background about the ACCA.  There are probably plenty of people here willing to answer more specific questions.

We see a lot of students from Pakistan who want to live and work in the UK.  Do you have any selling points to make you stand out from the crowd?  Not to discourage you, but the accounting market is pretty heavily saturated right now.

There is a chat room here, but I don’t use it because it’s usually empty.  I know that’s self-reinforcing, but this is quite a low-traffic forum.

All I mean is that there are far more people looking for accounting jobs in the UK than there are suitable vacancies for them.  I will admit to not knowing much about the process of moving from Pakistan to live and work in the UK, but I do know the accounting market is flooded with applicants.  This tilts the balance of power towards the recruiters and allows them to be very selective with who they take on.

What I am asking is this: what strengths do you have as an applicant compared to other applicants?  It is assumed that someone who wants to work in accounts will be numerate, methodical, analytical etc, so that isn’t enough on its own.  Plenty have a relevant degree, but very good academics do help to an extent.  How are you different from every other application they will receive that day?  What about work experience?  Some aspect of a hobby that demonstrates suitability?

You also need to talk to some fellow students in Pakistan.

I see plenty of posts from people wanting to come over here and work but not one of someone who has actually managed it!

Hi and welcome to AS. The immigration laws in this country are now stricter than ever for those wishing to migrate to the UK to live and work here. Most recently, there has also been a tightening of the migration rules for student visas.

See here for more info.

Many colleges have had their ability to accept foreign students restricted or removed completely. This means less places for an ever growing number of potential students. In addition, visa applications from some countries have been suspended altogether due to an unusually high number of applications - more info here.

From reading these articles, if you really want to study in the UK at some point, I think your best bet is work hard to get the best grades you can, improve your english as this seems to be a key factor now, and research your UK college well. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, not all are genuine, some are just a front for providing the necessary student documentation. These are in the minority, hopefully, just be careful before handing over any money.

Good luck with your studies.
