Hi

How about the following few features to the forum which according to my experience would be highly useful for current/potential members:

1. Facility to view what the currently online members are doing i.e. what posts they are watching, which posts they are replying to etc.(this feature is found on many other forums)

2. Chat box more integrated to the main page on the forum to bring it to people attention and make it MORE ASSESSABLE.

3. Advanced text formatting! I really miss this feature here!

Thanks!

Hi,

We can take a look at the suggestions.

Out of interest, I know other forums have the facility to see what other members are doing, but I don’t quite see how this is particularly useful - why would you want to know what others are doing?

Steve

Hi

Thanks for taking this into account.

I think that we need to make the forum more dynamic and integrated. It is often nice to see what the fellow students/members are doing on the forum, just like asking “Hey, whats up?’ , so basically this functionality will fulfill this purpose. It maybe that you are answering some post in any section and I would be interested to see what Steve is upto, so I will go there and see whats going on smile. Or in another way, It will make forum more fun and interesting. I dont know more benefits but just that it gives a good feeling (intangible asset) and is quite widely used on other forums which suggests that members may like this feature.

..just my thoughts..

Hi,

I think there should be some additional fields in the profile like members should be able to mention the paper they are studying through their user profile so we could know who and how many students are taking particular papers and also it could be easier to contact them if there are any planned chat sessions/updates etc. So If there could be a list which have names of all members taking, say, P7 than It’s easier to reach them!

Sorry for many comments but I couldnt just control!

Hi Princeacid,

I’m not sure how effective that would be because some students study multiple papers and it would then be up to the individual to change the papers each time they pass a paper which could be easily forgotten.

We had a P1 study group last year and it was formed by the members concerned via a thread in the p1 forum. I think if members wanted a similar study group/discussion in the chat room then it might be better to post up a thread.

I like your suggestions but we have to consider the benefit to the users as well.

Regards
Steve

She might suffer with that with both contractual and time commitments, I’m just grateful for any help she can give without asking her to do more.

Hi!

What about If in the email subscription of new posts i.e. the email notification of new posts in the thread which we subscribed, we get the email notification saying ” you have a new post in this thread…” . How about If in that same email we get the text of the new post in that thread?

In this way we will get to see the new post and ascertain if that is a question directed to us or just a reply from some other member and than we can decide If we should reply it or leave it. Saving time and less of hassle!

Hi

Great suggestions, but impractical and as previously said not very interesting.

I don’t want to know what others are doing, and I’ve got the most recent posts list on the home page for keeping up to date with what’s going on.

Chat boxes - memory hoggers, often cause problems (IT and moderation wise) and banned by many corporate internet security policies. Thus stduents who don’t have a pc at home won’t be able to participate in the forum.

Advanced text formatting - again a memory hogger and often not very useful in a forum such as this. We can already do different colours, sizes and bold/italic fonts plus smilies. If having ‘basic’ formatting means smaller servers, so cheaper to run (you don’t pay to register!) and can host many more students, then that’s the way to go.

Improvement is a good thing, but we must remember to be fair to everyone, including the administrators and the systems!
