If you do decide to sit a P paper be it P1 or P3 you will have to pay for all the remaining f papers to allow you to sit it.

I know. Sitting a P paper without the F papers never formed part of my dilemma though.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I agree a review is a waste of time and to be honest the pass rates were quite good so I have accepted the mark was a point made that I was so so close but not this time. I have started looking at the study texts for the next sitting. I am thinking P6 is a rather challenging paper! I know the pass rates on audit are really low but I have gone for it as I trained in practice hence audit and spent some time in internal audit too. I just hope I have chosen wisely…

Hey Mdam, you passed 3/4 of your papers? Thats good !

The passing rates are definitely going to be high this time.

Yes, can’t complain too much. Passs is a pass.

Well done for yours, excellent. However, you know that they are excellent results so perhaps being a little more sympathetic to those who failed would be good! Continually saying how bad 75% is can make someone with 45% feel pretty awful.

75% is not bad, it equates to a 1st class in a University course, therefore well done and all the best with the next ones!

Where can I find the info that relates your percentage mark in the exam to a uni course?  Would be quite interesting for comparison but I cant seem to find it anywhere!

Thanks

I think what you mean is this : http://www.accaglobal.com/students/study_exams/qualifications/degree/conversion/transitional

Basically if you get above 68% average in Part 2 (F4 till F9) then you can get a 1st class BSC degree.

Drat, I need to average 64 on F4, F8 and F9 to be in with a chance of doing the BSc and getting a 2:1! That may well have made my decision to take 3 papers instead of 4 in June!

I got a call from the ACCA today to let me know that my Dec-08 88% on P1 got me a 1st in Ireland and a 2nd in the world.

Who wants to celebrate with me? I hadn’t sat ACCA exams for 6 years before the Dec-08 sitting so this has motivated me to attempt P2, P5 and P6 in June.

I hope there were more good placements among the members here!

I know it’s there’s a recession going on at the moment, but I think this is a good excuse to take my wife out for a meal!

Congrats Mike. Fab news. Keep up the good work, and enjoy your meal.

PS Why do men feel they need an excuse to take their wives out? We women don’t complain if you just treat us to dinner out without one tongue wink

Thanks Alamode. My approach may not work for everyone as I’ve been working for 13 years and can draw down on a lot of practical experience.

I avoided getting bogged down with the theory and focused on the big issues, i.e. the agency problem and recent corporate failures/scandals to add some relevance. I then considered how they could have been prevented by applying best practice (NEDs, committees etc.). I skimmed over the different acts that make up the combined code and got a decent layman’s understanding of Sarbanes-Oxley. I approached the internal control section from a high level reviewing as many practical cases as possible and I memorised the COSO framework. The ethics section is very theoretical, so I just had to commit as much of it to memory as possible. Thankfully the exam in the Dec-08 sitting was very practical! I tend to do better when I can relate to the case study or scenario.

I also found the Passacca.net downloads for P1 to be very useful at focusing my efforts on the most important areas of the course. I’ve tended in the past to get flustered by the sheer volume of material.

I hope that helps!
