I must say I was a bit surprised that the pass rates are out already.

Feedback on 2.3 and 2.4. I found both of these tough. In comparison, 2.3 was harder than 2.4. I felt 2.3 had a few ‘gotchas’ this time round. The PCTCT question usually tests everything under the sun. Most students on my course felt that there was more added to that question. Also, Incorparation Tax Relief came up. If memory serves, did not come across it in past papers question practice. And yes, I did do that question but only because I read up on Incorporation Tax Relief at 4:00 am on the day. Couldn’t sleep. Rather than panic…

2.4 has always had lower pass rate. Me and my mates thought relative to 2.3, 2.4 had fewer surprises.

Fortunately I passed. But I can say that 2.3 had more surprises that anticipated.

Lecturers did warn that they need to test areas as yet untested in the outgoing syllabus. In my opinion, after the Dec’06 session, I think their advise is worth listening to.

I totally agree with you about 2.3. I did well on it, but even then I know I panicked on the fiurst question and there were definately things on that paper that had never come up before (even some same 1-2 point parts). I was surprised by the reactions of tutors etc (PQ mag) who thought that it was a fair paper. I thought it was much harder then usual and in comparison 2.4 was easier then normal.

Hey Picklepen,

Regarding PQ Mag tutors comments, take that with a huge pinch of salt. Sweeping generalisation and assumptions do more harm than help. These exams are taken across 8 (if I remember correctly) different time zones worldwide. I find that if I listen to my own lecturers and pay attention to their advice, it works.

I’m glad you agree with me on 2.3. My strategy so far has been review lecture notes and rework lecture examples. Followed exam question practice. Time to revise strategy. Lecture notes and examples review should be very rapid. Move straight on to exam question practice.

What papers are you sitting in June’07? I’m going to be sitting 2.5 and 2.6.

ok - you’ll just have to pass on your tutors tips to me and the rest of us taking the same papers!

I’m taking 2.5 and 2.6 in June, already about a third of the way through the text books though I really haven’t “absorbed” anything yet.

What I did with 2.3 was do every question in the practice kit twice - that really helped me. Its harder to do that with 2.4 (and probably the next two) because the questions are sooo long.

I’d love to here any tips from anyone with regard to 2.5 and 2.6 but I’ll probably repost that in the appropriate forums a little later on!

PQ Magazine comments (Jan 2007), not all those colleges run the courses!

Wow those pass %‘s are pretty shocking aren’t they!!!!

I think with the final 3 part of it is due to people not studying for all 3 now you can keep your passes even when failing the others. I only had time to study for 1 (3.5) and passed! hooray! Just turned up for the other 2 without any prior study at all and got low marks. So I for one helped bring down the pass %!!

LOL I sound like a teachers pet, don’t I? Seriously though, you’re on. I’m all for exchanging ideas and information.

I start my lectures next week.

Got 72 in 2.4 and 73 in 2.5. Obviously happy with that. Exempt from 2.6 so am on to part 3. I’m doing 3.2 & 3.3 in June. Just got the books this week, always a struggle to get going after a couple of months off!
