Hello everyone at Accountancy Students!
I would like to take this time to introduce myself. I recently just opened up my very own accounting firm, and now I can say I am a very proud business owner! I started out going to college for accounting, became a CPA, and now owning my own business has truly been a blessing. Although there are struggles, things that no one tells you about when starting your own company, it is still better than working for the “man”. I am open if anyone has questions about accounting, starting your own business, and your suggestions.

Hi,
I just wanted to introduce myself and hopefully get some feedback on the accounting profession in the U.K. I am a 22 year old student currently studying for my Masters of Accountancy(MAcc) in the United States and hope to finish my CPA by summer/fall of 2012. I am looking into how the recruiting process works for public accounting positions in the U.K. More specifically I am looking for a full-time position in audit at one of the Big 4 firms. I’m assuming it is not a very common practice to hire associates from overseas but I am curious as to what your opinions might be and where best to begin.

For some other background info I have worked at a bank, a lawfirm, and most recently interned at Deloitte in Atlanta, Georgia. Due to Deloitte’s member firm structure it has proved impossible to simply accept a job in Atlanta and get transferred overseas as an associate.

I appreciate any help!

hi my name is sandeep, passed my IAB level 1 in bookkeeping now studying for IAB level 3 book keeping and studying for sage level 1. i exempt level 2 because i have a-levels and gcses.

i am only 24 and i wish to persue a career in accounting.

i have few questions not too sure where to post but i will post here just incase.

i need to prepare a trial balance as at 31st may 200x from the balances provided above. identify any difference between the debit balances and credit balance on the trial balance as a suspense account balance and post the difference in books amount to the suspense account.

an investigation into the difference in books balance as at 31st may 200x revealed the following errors.

1. the discounts recieved total of £1,860 as at 31 may 200x had been posted from the cash book to the discounts recieved accounts but had not been posted to the purchase ledger control account.

2. in may month 200x a cheque for £1,200 had been paied in respect of operating expenses. the cheque had been debited to the operating expenses account and had also been debited to the bank account in the cash book.

3. the new goods total of £74,200 as at 31 may 200x had been posted from the purchase day book to the debit side of the purchases account as £72,400

4. discounts allowed of £920 had been credited to the discounts recieved account when transfers had been made from the cash book as at 31 may 200x.

prepare journal enteries necessarys to corret the errors given above. date your journal enteries 31 may 200x and include suitable narratives.

take postings to the suspense account and eliminate the original difference in books balance.

redraft the trial balance as at 31 may 200x showing the corrected account balances following the elimination of the suspense accounts balance.

Hello,
I just found this helpful website today and registered to be a member straight away.
I am 32 years old, English is not my first language so I sometimes struggled a bit with my AAT courses.
At the moment, I am studying AAT Level 4 and I am looking forward to have a good chat with any one who is interested in AAT level 4 or any issue regarding accountancy.

Hi all, just thought I would introduce myself and ask for a bit of general advice at the same time.

Im 38 and currenly work in a warehouse ( as I have done all my life ), a couple of years ago I decided to try and launch a new career and chose bookkeeping/accounting.
I have completed OCR level 1 & 2 bookkeeping and have just finished IAB level 3 accounting and advanced bookkeeping and am awaiting results. I also attempted OCR level 1 sage last year but failed the second stage.
This year I am hoping to do aat intermediate but am beginning to wonder if it could just end up being a waste of time and money.
As I said I have worked in a warehouse all my life and am wondering if trying to make a move to accounting is unrealistic given my age and the fact that I have no experience of working in an office environment let alone an accounting environment. So Im thinking how much of a chance is there of me actually gaining paid employment if I should be fortunate to complete and pass aat intermediate and advanced??
If anyone could give me some good, honest advice I would be very appreciative

Hi guys

Just a quick note to introduce myself. I’m Phil, from Durham, 33 and currently work as a graphic designer. I am however looking into a possible change of career over the next few years and have spoken with a few friends that are accountants and am looking into doing the AAT (level 2 to start with).

Will be looking for some advice and thoughts of other people who may have been in a similar position to myself, and what the best routes are to take.

Cheers
P
