Planning to do last ACCA exam in June 2012.

My plan is to purchase books from Kaplan Publishing and home study starting from mid Feb with a gradual increase in the amount of hours nearer to the exam.

I know from experience P6 Advanced Taxation is a huge syllabus and more orientated towards the type of job I am currently employed but my employers are not particullarly bothered which exam I take (unless I wish to take up the option of CTA afterwards).

Is P5 Advanced performance management a smaller syllabus and an easier exam to just get out of the way and proceed to affiliate?

I just want to do the easiest option and get exams finished.

Anyone had a similar situation or experience with both these papers?

Thanks

Hi everyone!

I am currently employed full-time, I’m 24 years old, have a degree in Technology and Business Studies and now want to build on my qualifications. I have been looking in to various financial courses, e.g. CIMA, ACCA and AAT. The one I am most interested in is ACCA and I am looking for advice.

I have been looking at the home study and distance learning packages as these would fit best around my current work schedule. Has anyone else done the exams through this method and how did they find it? Also, how much does it cost to sit all the exams?

I’m also keen to know what the different stages of ACCA are and how long you can take to complete all the exams? If I decide to do ACCA, I will stay in my current position for the duration of the exams and then when it comes to doing the PER, I will look for a finance related position to gain the experience required to become chartered. Has anyone not done the PER part but still feels it has increased their job opportunities?

I know I have asked lots of questions but any support would be greatly appreciated.

Thank-you!

I have taken up the daunting task of attempting F7 and F9 in December 2011. Full time worker, with a 4 year old at home. I am halfway thru F9, (opentuition lectures/notes and BPP text - for reference). Haven’tlooked at F7 at all yet. I plan to finish F9 this weekend (we have long 5 day public holidays coming up) along with doing past papers practice - once. Then I plan to start with F7 and plan to finish it in 15 days from 10th Nov to 25th Nov. I am on leave from 21st Nov until the end of exams and plan to use those approximately 3 weeks for revision and concentrate on only doing past papers for both the subjects. What does everyone think of this plan? So essentially I am hinting at finishing both the subjects in roughly 1.5 months (given the fact that I am already half way thru with F9).

Hello

I’m currently deciding whether i want to study for the ACCA or ACA. There maybe a possibility that i will move to Australia in the future and figured ACCA will be the best as it is global. However, i spoke to someone studying ACA and she claimed that it was more prestige to have the ACA in Aussie than ACCA.. Does anyone know much about this?

usually high rate taxpayers try to lessen their tax through gift aid donation and personal pension contribution because it reduces their income tax payable. even i read an article saying that due to high tax rates, taxpayers may prevent paying more tax by contributing in personal pension scheme or gift aid donation. but some how i dont seem to understand why they have to do this because gift aid donation and personal pension scheme (APPLICABLE to both self employed and employed) are disallowed expense
(exception for this only applies to employed people for whom the expenses are allowed ie donation to charity under payroll deduction scheme and contrbution to occupational pension plan, but what about others?)

so what happens is

accounting profit x
disallowed expenses x
........................

........................
capital allowance (x)

taxable trading profit x

for example,
trading profit= 150000
gift aid donation or personal pension = 50000

in 1st example (without gift aid donation)
nonsavings income= 150000
hence income tax =
37400x 20% 7480
(150000-37400)x 40% 45040
             total 52520
in 2nd example (with gift aid donation)
non savings income= 200000(150000+50000 disallowable hence added and thus extending the rate bands)
THEREFORE income tax=
87400x20% 17480
(200000-87400) 45040
        total 62520
so its better for him not to contribute to personal pension plan or gift aid donation?? ISNT IT? so why rich people tend to donate to gift aid donations or in pension plan?

THANKING YOU
