Dear Members,

I am currently looking to study AAT Lvl3 for my univercity entry. I have always wondered how accountants progress through a company. For example, for my degree I have a choice of Mathematics, Economics or Accounting and Finance.

I was wondering, if I chose the Accounting and Finance degree, I would be part qualified ACCA (would need 5 more modules and 3 years experience to become fully qualified). With such a degree, where would my carrier take me, waht are my options?

You have to understand,I havent really got any financial/accounting work experience, I am not really sure how the structure works. For example, how many accountants start off as a Junior/Assistant Accountant and end up with a role such as, say CFO (Chief Financial Officer)? If not CFO, thne what other roles are out there?

I guess I am looking to see what kind of options are available to me in the long term haul. What are the possibilities, where could I branh out to with accounting?

Kind Regards
Alexander

Dear Members,

I am currently looking to enter university at degree level to study accounting and finance, possibly economics. Prior to that, my admissions officer advised me that I will need an AAT at lvl3 to be accepted onto my degree in february. Firstly a bit about myself.

I am a mature student, aged 22, I dont really have A levels seeing as I had a personal financial problems back when I was 17 (living away from home with no support from parents). I havent got any relevant financial or acocunting experience/knowledge, mainly because I was working in an entirely different field to support and maintain myself since the age of 16.

Right now I am looking for an accredited institution with a good reputation to study AAT lvl3. I am at full time employment, so financially speaking, I want a good solid start into educating myself. I am looking at recommendations, currently I have an eye out on Kaplan Financial and London SAM as those two are the closest institutions to me in London.

Also, I understand that qualifications such as ACCA, which I plan on eventually obtaining, require several years of field experience. In my opinion this will be my biggest drawback. I dont really know how I can go about obtaining such experience seeing as I dont have A Levels and no Professional Certification.Offcourse I am not in a rush to complete this, but I am currently looking to tie up all these loose ends by the age of 26/27.

I am interested, once I am qualified with an NVQ (as they call it) in AAT LVL3, how easy will it be for me to gain a job? Mainly I am getting AAT3 for entry to university, I believe my university will have 1 years field experience included in my study package. I would be wise to find myself a new job in the accounting field whilst I am going through my education , what kind of positions should I look for? - Is there a demand for a certain field of accountancy?

If anyone has had similar life experience, or anyone that can advise me on these topics, please do not hesitate to do so, remember I am new to this completely and every small detail could go a long way to aiding me.

Regards
Alex

Hi guys,

I have failed the P3 paper the last exam sitting and have to go for revision course somewhere.

I did my original course in Manchester (Kaplan). However their revision course for P3 is first week in November - which to be honest could create problems at work. In Leeds it is 3rd Week in November, but there is different tutor…

In Manchester the tutor is Paul Anderson and in Leeds it is Oliver Seed.

Can anyone give me any insight whether they consider the Leeds tutor good? I found the paper quite difficult to understand the questions - or more to the point, which model the examiner wanted me to use if he asked specific question…

Any help appreciated

Thank you

Just failed F7 AGAIN (missed out by a few marks, again) but passed F8

To keep on track, im thinking if I started F9 and P1 learning this week, I could quite comfortably do all 3 in December, in terms of time to learn and then revise

Would this be too much to manage? I haven’t looked much at F9 and P1 yet, but have the guides in front of me and they don’t seem too bad

I didn’t get through P2 (again) in this June session. I was thinking of setting up a study group on this site for people planning to sit P2 in Dec. Its pretty tough studying on your own especially if you’re coming back from work because opening your books isn’t too high on ‘Things I Want To do’ list at that time. However having a small study group helps to raise the motivation level and provides an opportunity to exchange study tips and discuss complex topics.

So if somebody’s interested do let me know so that we can kick start things ASAP.

Hi all,

Following a PM I just wanted to ensure everyone understands the effect of the ACCA new syllabus.

From June 2011 F7 and P2 will NOT be offered on a UK GAAP basis.

UK GAAP is gone from new syllabus.

There will still be a UK option but it is a IFRS GAAP syllabus

so in 2011

F7/P2 UK = IFRS with UK law (companies act 2006)

F7/P2 INT = IFRS generic

Either way you study IFRS!!

There is no point entering F3 UK this December…it is still UK GAAP and going no where!

I hope that makes sense

Hello,

I am currently studying AAT Home Study with BPP Technician stage. And I am actually shocked what I am
experiencing with BPP.
First the fees are quite high and expensive but home study service is horrible.
Only for payment BPP is quick but the rest is slow. The reports of skills test is very slow
and I have been thinking unit is finished but got lettre of achievment from AAT but did
pass on 30 % of the paper.
Secondly I regret studying AAT as I think now it is not worth to study .
The skills test only pass with 100 % doen not make a sense to me anymore.
Due experience with AAT exams I have got critical which systems they have.
You have Part A+B and in both you have to reach 50 % or you do not pass.
It is not possible having in Part A 48 % and B 80 % you do fail anyway.
My suspision is that AAT and their Approved Assesmant Centre it is just about money
and not accounting.
Mayby I am giving up AAT as it is not worth doing that.
I regret not starting with ACCA as you are be able doing homestudy on your own or college but with
AAT you have to register with a approved assessment centre otherwise you can not do exams.
In my opinion AAT and the approved assessment centres doing well financially in earning money
but students and accounting just come second.

Hey everyone, newbie after a bit of advice. Not sure where to post this so if i’m in the wrong place feel free to redirect me.

At 27 i decided the trade of floor fitter is not for me, at school i wanted to be an accountant but ended up working for my dad. (basically at 16 i was money hungry and short-sighted)

28 now and I have just completed my level 2 AAT, but am stuck on where to go next.
I’m torn between 2 paths really, i’ll be carrying on with AAT regardless and am unsure whether to do A-Levels alongside or look for roles within industry.
With A-Levels i’ll have the option of Uni or even applying on some schemes that companies run Ie. Headstart programme at PwC. I’m also worried that AAT will “get in the way” of me applying for these programmes as they seem to include AAT levels 3&4.
Getting a role within industry would pretty much mean CIMA (i think) which i’m not fussed about as i find both Finance & Management accountancy equally interesting. My main worry with this is that given the economic climate, it’s quite conceivable i’ll go into level 4 without a job in the field or any experience, i would hate to find myself in a position whereby i’m over qualified yet under experienced.

Any advice, opinion or other option would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.
