Whoa, they don’t look great, do they? Is it the exams themselves, more students being less well prepared or a mix of the two?

I personally felt that the syllabus coverage of the exams I sat (P2 & P6) was quite narrow, and the tips given by my tutors was helpful here. Quite a few of the areas we covered on revision courses were the ones that came up. But then again quite a few that we covered didn’t.

What does everyone else think?

I did F5 and F6 - 28% for F5 is really low.
I thought it was really difficult on the day but did much better than I thought I had.
No idea why the rates are so low.  Could well be that they are not well enough prepared.

I intend to sit F5 in December so this 28% looks really scary to me.

I think it’s a good thing as it shows that it is still a worthwhile qualification, even with the number of accountants/students around.

I failed and I accept that I wasn’t prepared properly. Had I scraped through, I would have been happy but would have still felt “I don’t really know enough yet still passed.”

They should show the number of students sitting each exam as well.

I’d like to know how many passed 1st time, 2nd time, 3rd time etc etc.

Also by stream would be nice.

Is this info available anywhere?

I intend to sit F5 in December so this 28% looks really scary to me.

It’s not that hard, I think alot of the students that I seen in the exam hall looked and were foreighn.

So it may be language problems or visa scams.

That is definitely a problem.

Im from Pakistan, which has the highest number of ACCA students after England Im told.. The major issue here is the inability of students to express themselves properly in a second language. At my tuition provider, only about 8 students out of around 80 passed F5.

The other problems, as the examiner has pointed out many times is people approaching F5 a bit too much like F2. Analysis and explanation is required here.

Wow, look at me, Im talking like a bloody teacher. I barely passed the paper myself, and looking at those pass rates, Im glad I did!

Anyway, the stats for all the papers seem to be downward, so maybe the ACCA has decided to tighten up a bit.

I agree with the above post, the examiner has stressed again and again that he is looking for analysis and understanding of the figures and not just computation. Many people fail to tackle F5 with that approach.

I failed F7 with 43. I thought I had failed when I walked out of the exam spent too much time trying to work out the mistake, but still that’s life. passed F8 with 67.
