Welcome to the AccountancyStudents Discussion Forums

Please take the time to read this – it will make life a lot easier.

This is an amazing forum, with a huge wealth of information and of genuine benefit to many people. Yet do remember it is an open forum, individual posts are not endorsed by AccountancyStudents.

First find the correct place

The forum has a large range of categories such as ‘ACCA’, ‘CIMA’ and then sub-‘forums’ such as ‘F6 Taxation’ and ‘Strategic Level’. Simply scan down all the categories and click on the most relevant or one that interests you. Once there you’ll see a range of ‘threads’ – this is the name for the different topics on a board. Click on one to take a look. Sometimes these threads run on for a number of pages. You’ll see the page numbers listed and you can click across them.

How to reply or have your say?

Once you are in a thread, simply click the ‘post reply’ button - to do this you must register. This is only to stop spammers. Registration is of course, like everything else on AccountancyStudents completely free. The only reason we use registration is so we can manage the forum in the event of abusive posts and stop spam, the purpose isn’t to build a database. Your registration details are never sold, it’s a pure administration tool. For more details see the site’s privacy policy here.

You can still read the things others have written without logging in though.

Ask a question or start a discussion

Before you do that, do check your topic hasn’t already been covered, either by scanning through the threads or using the search function (see below). If you do want to start a discussion, just find the relevant section and click ‘new topic’ – then you’re up and running.

Some commonly asked questions

How do I find out whether my subject is already being discussed?

It’s always worth checking to see if the information you are looking for is already on the site. Search the main site: On the home page http://www.accountancystudents.co.uk you will find search box near the top of the page. Simply tap in one or two words that are relevant and all relevant articles should appear.

Search the forums. Someone may have already asked a similar question. To check use the search engine near the top of this page. It is a powerful search tool with many options. If the subject is similar, why not continue that discussion and put your question/suggestion there rather than starting a new one.

What is the ranking system?

The more you post (write or reply to messages) on the boards, the higher ranked AccountancyStudent you become. There are five levels and at each you get another star and change of title. The exact thresholds are a closely guarded secret. However it’s all perfectly fair.

It should be noted the rankings are governed by the stars people get. These stars are purely for posting, they don’t indicate the quality of information, it’s just a bit of fun.

What to do if you don’t know what to do?

Have a look at the ‘Site Feedback: Questions & Suggestions’ forum where you can post your question. If you think there’s a problem with the site you can also contact us.

How is the site moderated?

We operate a ‘report an abuse’ system. It’s very important that you know we can’t always read every post. We rely on you for help. If you see any posts that you think are problems like spam, offensive posts, racist, libellous or anything else that is illegal - we need you to tell us about it. Just click on the ‘Report’ link at the top of each post and it will be dealt with as soon as possible.

Please do help us keep these forums a nice place to be.

Site Policy On Advertising & Spamming

Posts on any forum considered to be blatant advertising of goods, services and/or companies will be removed unless prior permission has been obtained from the Administrator. We also do not allow advertising via private messaging (PM). Again, if you see such a post please use the ‘Report’ link and we will deal with it as soon as possible. If you receive a PM with advertising please contact us.

Site policy on offensive or racist posts

The site policy is to err on the side of caution. If a complaint is received about the abusive or racist nature or language of a post - that post will be removed.

This will be done on a ‘strict liability’ basis. In other words no judgement about ‘rights or wrongs’ of the post will be made. It will simply disappear. This policy may sound harsh. However, it is the easiest way to protect the site and the community of AccountancyStudents - the test will be an objective not subjective one - does the post contain racist, offensive or abusive language and has someone complained’? If it does it will be deleted. All complaints will be treated in confidence.

If someone breaks this policy after a warning about such behaviour - they will have their access rights to the forums removed.

Please err on the side of caution. We never want to be put in the position of receiving a complaint about a post and having to decide whether it must be removed. We all set different standards of language and behaviour. The question to ask yourself is “would anyone take offence?” to such a statement - if the answer is yes then please don’t post it.

To report an abusive, offensive or racist post please use the ‘Report’ link and we will deal with it as soon as possible. If you receive an abusive, offensive or racist PM please contact us.

And finally remember…. be considerate to your fellow accountancy students!
