Deleting a new customer in Sage Line 50 V12

Hi Guys,

I’m learning Sage Line 50 v12 at the minute, working my way through a textbook I bought in Waterstones and hoping to take some night classes at the start of the year.

My problem is - I’m working througn a case study at the start of the book and I’m entering customer records. I’ve edited a customer record twice, putting in a different opening balance each time , and now the records show that the customer’s account has an opening balance that is the total of the two separate balances I’ve entered.

I’d like to delete the customer account and start over again, but Sage won’t let me. It’s telling me there are associated transactions and it won’t let me delete the customer account.

Is there any way round this? I’d hate to mess up a long series of exercises just because of a silly mistake like this early in the book.

Any advice anybody could give me would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Miktor

Help to install 2nd copy of Sage on external hard drive

I have 2 licensed copies of Sage - 1 is my company’s and the other is my own. The company’s copy is 5 Accounts version 14 and mine is Line 50 version 12.

They are each licensed - the newer one is not an upgrade.

I had uninstalled om own copy when I installed the company’s copy but now I want to put my own copy on my external hard drive to process another company’s accounts.

Before anyone asks I am already at my maximum number of companies on the Version 14 so I can’t piggyback that copy.

I have tried running the setup package to select the directory for the external had drive but it automatically detects I already have Sage on my machine and doesnot give me the option to select a directory it just goes straight to the screen with the options to modify, repair or uninstall my current Sage.

Help!!!

Hi

I need to take yet another look at an intercompany reconciliation, between sales ledger and purchase ledger, which I thought I had solved last financial year.

I have exported the two activities (customer and supplier) from Sage into one csv file, so details of the SL are on the left, columns A-J, and PL details are on the right, columns L-U. What I want is to have the computer look at each line of the SL and match these to lines in the PL, I want it to show a match if both the invoice number (columns E&P;) and the amount (columns J&U;) are the same. This way I can only look at the items which do not match, and save myself a huge amount of time.

The sort of mismatches I have come across in the past include, missing invoices, wrong invoice numbers, wrong invoice amounts, posted to the wrong company, posted twice, contra invoices and credits, invoices posted as credits and vice versa, parts of invoices posted to different jobs or nominal codes and therefore not matching amounts. I can’t think of anything else at the moment, but if it’s possible for someone to have done it - they probably have!!!

I understand this is quite easy if matching one pair (via Macros?), but our IT guy is having trouble as it is two pairs that I need to match. It may be that it has to be done in two or more processes...?

Thanks for looking!

Hi All, hope the studying is going well!

Earlier this year I completed my studies and finally got my ACA! I made the decision to leave my big 4 job and to develop a set of tools to make life easier for auditors and accountants. Well, after 8 months of some very long hours, I’ve finished and this week we launched xxxxxx.

xxxxxx is a comprehensive suite of computer aided audit tools for Excel. There are over 100 tools in total, including monetary unit sampling, duplicate detection, journals testing and many more.

The idea behind xxxxx was to make it as simple to use as possible, so that everyone can use it, not just those with an IT degree! xxxxxx runs completely within Excel, uses simple language and all the inputs are colour coded. This combined with the inbuilt, step by step help means that you don’t even need any training!

The feedback from our Beta testers was extremely positive, and in many cases xxxxxx was saving people 3 or 4 hours every week!!!

You can download a fully functional 30 day trial of xxxxxx from our website, xxxxx

Let me know what you think of xxxxxx, and if you like it why not suggest to the boss that they buy you a license!

Cheers

Charlie

Advice on Accounting Software

Hi all, advice would be gratefully received on recommended types of accounting software, as I work in a practice which still works primarily manually.

(I use Microsoft Excel and we take records exported from Sage and Quickbooks for some clients but don’t actually use either of those systems internally.)

Our practice will be taking on a client shortly who will want us to administer their books using an IT system which I don’t forsee being a problem except that I don’t really have a huge hands on knowledge of the different applications available.

Could anyone provide a recommendation on a software package for a single business (they will own it - not us) it is not likely to be a huge amount of work but should be sufficient to produce VAT Returns and Management and Year End statements. Also if known would you be able to give some sort of price indication.

Many thanks
