How much is needed for ACCA challenge questions?

This is my first return and I really have no idea how much I’m supposed to write. I just want to do the “Use information and communication technology” one as I easily meet the objectives for that but the questions leave me a bit stumped.

Describe your experience of using information technology
How have you applied your IT skills to improve your personal performance?
How has your IT skills and associated improved performance benefited the wider organisation?

All I’ve got for the last one is that my improved performance means I can complete jobs quicker and therefore reduce the firms costs but I can’t see that being enough and can’t really think what to put for the other two :s

Running out of time now as well, only 4 more work days left and obviously my mentor needs to review it and sign it off within that time so I can meet the deadline!

Edit: For “Describe your experience of using information technology” do they just want me to explain how I use IT at work? What software I use and things like that?

Starting a career in Accountancy

Hi,

I am new to this forum and hope someone can help me.

I wish to pursue a career in Accountancy but:

a) I have no prior Accountancy experience.
b) I have no Accountancy qualifications.
c) I don’t have the financial resources to deal with b)

In light of the above, I’m currently thinking that there must be some jobs out there where the recruiter wants someone who’ll offer some very basic Accountancy work for little money. Also, there must be some employers who will offer to support me financially in pursuance of further qualifications. What is the most effective method of finding such employers/jobs without wasting hours trawling through recruitment websites?

I figure that the AAT is probably the most suitable qualification for me, given my lack of my prior experience/knowledge.

Please can someone advise me?

Thanks.

PS - What level of numeracy is required in Accountancy? I got grade B in GCSE Maths but have struggled on the SHL numeracy tests, despite practising. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Bright and dark sides of accountancy volunteering for beginners

If you are a mature student, who starts their distance learning accountancy course without any relevant knowledge and/or experience, and if you are studying concurrently with your (not accountancy related) job, you might consider some volunteer work to get into contact with a real accountancy environment. Does anybody have some experience with accountancy volunteer work at the most junior level? Generally, is it worthwhile experience at all? What (in terms of particular volunteer work providers, job positions, particular responsibilities etc) might be the best kind of volunteer work that you could learn the most in? And is there anything in the area (particular charities, work assignments etc) a beginner should avoid to not waste their time and energy (not mentioning other, more serious potential risks)? Thank you in advance for any relevant experience, knowledge or opinion.

I have completed some of the challenge questions and my line manager has signed them off on line. On the ACCA website they come up as complete.

Do I also need to keep a paper copy as well? When you print them off there is a box for your workplace mentor to sign off and a box for a countersigning training supervisor to sign off. Is this two separate people?

Thanks

Hello,

I would be interested to hear from you if you gained practical accounting experience through training with one of those organisations - Ptap, LondonSAM, practical-experience.co.uk. How did you find it? Did it help you to secure the job you wanted?
Can you recommend any other providers of ‘practical accounting training’?

Any opinions and suggestions welcome!

Hello,

I’m studying CIMA and am currently completing Managerial Level.
I’ve been working in IT for 9 years as an analyst mainly in the finacial sector. I don’t have any direct accountancy experience and have been having problems finding relevant employment.

I’m aware of a course provided by PTAP (Practical Training in Accountancy and Payroll) in London Which is geared for people with a practical experience deficit. Has anybody any experience of this course and is it worthwhile.? Also I would appreciate any tips regarding finding relevant managerial Accountancy experience.

Thanks KM

Hi,

I am on a student visa (ACCA COURSE) and in search of approved employers who can provide work experience.

I have been on accaglobal website but it requires username and password to access the approved employers section.

Any help in this matter will be highly appreciated.

Regards
