Hi Just wondering how good the Bpp course notes are, are they enough with the practice and revsion kit, without using the study text?

Anyone got a timetable for this yet or know where I can find one? Can’t locate anything other than the December 2008 exams on the ACCA website - but that could just be me.

Well, annual return and payment completed without any drama or crashing, what is going on?

Bit concerned it gave me the option of banking my completed STR for the second year running though...?!?

Thought I’d better do it to be on the safe side, do you think it was malfunctioning last year or has anybody else had this same experience?

Where do KPMG/EY/similar companies in London send their grads to study ACCA?

This is my first post so hello everyone! Hoping someone can help:

I’m looking at doing the ACCA part time in London but am confused by the options.

I know that KPMG and EY put some of their grads through the ACCA, and I think BDO and others do too. What college do they send their grads to?

ACCOUNTANTS SHOULD RETIRE AT ABOUT 65

After having a look at what happened to Madoff in the USA, I am still shocked to see that Madoff was audited by a small firm of 3 people one was 80 years old and another one is a secretary,so this leaves us with one accountant who is under 65.(Cfr. the Economist Dec 18th 2008).

2 partners and a secretary.

No doubts that the firm is to blame for signing such company’s accounts but I think that the Supervisory body,not to name it, is to blame too. I think that they should be an age at which accountants should be required to retire.

Many countries in the world have set a limit of between 62 and 65. Aren’t professional bodies suppose to set guidelines? we’ve got all these “unifying” standards through IFAC, but isn’t it time for all Bodies to think about setting a standard about Accountants’ age through IFAC?

Let me ask you this questions:

- Do you think that a pilot, who’s responsible for human being lives,can keep on working at 80?
- Do you thin a surgeon can keep on practicing at 80?

I know that most us will answer no. Then why let accountants pratice at this age.

BEEN THINKING ABOUT THIS FOR A WHILE.
WHAT IS IMPLICATION OF:
1. SAME BOARD CONTROLLING TWO OR MORE SEPARATE COMPANIES?
2. MAKING ONE A PARENT COMPANY AND OTHER(S) SUBSIDIARIES, IE WHOLLY PURCHASING THE SHARES OF THE OTHER COMPANY(IES)?

DEFERRED TAX

I STILL FIND IT HARD TO COMPREHEND THE “COMPLEXITY” OF DEFERRED TAX. I SPENT A WHOLE MONTH READING THE REVISED IAS 12 BUT THE MORE I GO FURTHER THINKING I AM GETTING THERE, THE MORE CONFUSED I GOT UNTIL I FINALLY GAVE IT UP, EVEN THOUGH I AM STILL ON IT.

I WOULD APPRECIATE ANYONE WHO COULD GIVE ME A CLUE ON THIS DEFERRED ISSUE.

Hi and merryxmas2every1, hope you all had a good one:

I havd a quick question regarding the PER/AR?

I have managed to do some temp work this year at a very small office, there is not a CA/ACCA there who would be able to sign me off but im not sure whether I should put it down in my AR as not sure whether this will count towards my PER of 36months?

Im starting a new permanent job next month which will be solely in tax, as to why im tempted to use the temp work i did earlier on in the year, because I will be able to have some of the objectives such as “MANAGE CASH” signed off in future roles- I cannot see when in the future I would be working outwith tax.

My questions are:

1) Does a qualified CA need to sign you off to confirm you have worked there?
2) When you do become a member, do prospective employers see exactly where you have done your experience as according to what you have put down with acca?

I’m planning on taking F4,5 and 6 in June,doing home study. After looking at both study texts I have decided to go with BPP. I was wondering if the law paper is achievable with just the study text and revision book, or would the whole home study package be needed, i have studied for a similar paper before and so have some prior knowledge. Also can anyone comment on the 3 distance learning options, Home study plus, home study and learn online, which would anyone recommend, and are the whole packages necessary?

Why do no top-tier unis offer ACCA?

Looking at my study options in London, I notice that the only unis/business schools that offer the ACCA programme are bottom of the Times league table.. why is this, do you think?
