Hello,

I’m studying CIMA and am currently completing Managerial Level.
I’ve been working in IT for 9 years as an analyst mainly in the finacial sector. I don’t have any direct accountancy experience and have been having problems finding relevant employment.

I’m aware of a course provided by PTAP (Practical Training in Accountancy and Payroll) in London Which is geared for people with a practical experience deficit. Has anybody any experience of this course and is it worthwhile.? Also I would appreciate any tips regarding finding relevant managerial Accountancy experience.

How can a person Semi-qualified/Affiliate get his FIRST job.What should be his approach.

- Industry or Accountancy Firm.

- Should he apply for Job roles or trainess positions.

- Should he demand Good salary or Low salary.

How did you get your first job? Those who got hired at an unrelated workplace with no experience plz share it.What was thier qualificaion.What kind of a job.What was initial salary.How have they progressed since thier first job.etc.

Looking for good comments and constructive debate.

Referencing your lecturer

I’ve been set an assignment in a particular area of management accounting; it’s about David Otley, contingency theories and their applications to the public sector. I’m to discuss other academic writing in public sector management accounting, with detailed analysis and comparison.

I happen to know that the lecturer’s own research is in this subject area; and she has written several journal articles published in Public Money and Management and others.

The question is: do I use the lecturer’s own work as the focus of my assignment?

How do you think she’d react? A careful, considered discussion of my lecturer’s ideas… I kind of like the idea of being given a carte blanche to be critical. Or even just flatter her ego. Is that what she’s after, do you think?

How about anyone else? Have you referred to your own lecturers in assignments?

Afternoon all.

Im studying ACCA and currently doing F4 and F5. I basically had a mid life crisis two years ago and shelved my old job (I was in Finance and Banking) and decided to follow something I had always wanted to do. Its been a steep learning curve as debits are now credits and vice versa! I decided to do my exams this year and so have finished F1,2 and 3. So Im pretty old for this accountancy lark at 39! I work for a small practice and have been preparing accounts for a year. To say I am pretty shell shocked is a bit of an understatement but its great to get my teeth into something new.

From the old syllabus are all the papers 1.2 relevent for the F2 exam.
Has their been any major changes from previos 1.2 to the new F2 theory.
