Recently there have been a number of posts which have caused provocation between members and to some may have been considered abusive or over stepping the mark.

The purpose of the site is to make this a great place to be for people to chat about accountancy and build an online accounting community, free from nasty or abusive comments. Yet remember this is a privately owned site. Posting is a privilege, not a right.

When members sign up, one of the terms they agree to is

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed).

Please bear this in mind when posting.

As a result, over the next few weeks we will be reviewing and amending the terms and these will be clearly displayed at the top of the forums.

Please report any abusive/illegal/offensive material to me. This includes communications both on the public forum and in personal messages (pm’s).

I am sorry to have had to remind all members of this but it has come about because of the actions of a small minority.

Thank you

Hi All,

Today I have received a record number of threads reported in 1 day because of:

abuse;
bad language;
harrassment;and
intimidation

There are a wide variety of people use these forums - not just students but tutors, examiners, qualified accountants and potential students. There are, therefore, standards that have to be maintained.

The nature of the forums are such that not everyone is going to have the same opinion as another member, or indeed agree with someone’s advice in response to a query. Just lately there have been several posts that have had to be deleted or amended because of bad language, abusive remarks or intimidation.

Can I ask that where members disagree with eachother or do not agree with the advice that somebody gives that they do not hurl a load of abuse at a member, or use bad language or make allegations against them which are personally offensive. Instead could you email myself or Mark, or PM another moderator. The other moderators on here are:

- bluewednesday
- caz128
- hraj

This is a respectful request - I know members won’t necessarily agree with eachother all the time - but where disagreements do take place just let myself, Mark or another moderator know and we will act as swiftly as we can.

Many thanks.

Steve

Unfortunately I have to delete a thread this morning advertising training. For the record, I just want to clarify that we are not being ‘dictatorial’ when deleting these posts. They are removed to protect the integrity of this website.

The organisations and products that are advertised on here are paid for by the relevant organisations. We cannot therefore allow other advertisers to promote their products and services either via the forums or the blogs section of the website to the detriment of those that have paid for their advertising - it would be clearly unfair and the organisations that advertise on here would have grounds for complaint if we were to allow others to advertise their products/services without prior agreement by the administrators. I would also refer posters advertising their products via the forums or in the blogs section here.

The administrators can be contacted at:

mark at accountancystudents dot co dot uk
steve dot collings at accountancystudents dot co dot uk

if the contents of this thread need to be discussed further.

Best wishes

As you may have seen on our home page and in the ACCA professional body sections, to celebrate the launch of GTG’s Fundamentals level Distance Learning courses, Get Through Guides are offering five lucky members of AccountancyStudents the opportunity to win a brand new distance learning package!

In addition, five Runners up will win a Study Text of their choice.

The GTG Distance Learning course is different from anything that is available on the market place right now.

An experienced tutor will guide you through your studies, using an exclusive forum for distance learning students.

There will be 2 days of live interactive lectures for you to attend. If you happen to miss the class, GTG can arrange for you to watch it at a later date. You will be able to interact with other students studying your paper, see other people’s answers to exam questions and compare your own – like an online classroom! Of course GTG’s tutors will also be marking interim and mock exams for you and giving you feedback.

GTG’s approach ensures that you will be studying consistently throughout the next 3 months, rather than leaving it all to the last minute. GTG’s email a day helps you focus on the most important parts of the chapter and the online tutor will advise you on which questions you should be doing.

Most of November will be reserved for revision and practising real ACCA exam questions, with guidance from your GTG tutor.

To enter, simply send your name, address, contact telephone number, ACCA registration number and AccountancyStudents username, along with which paper you would like for distance learning to the following email address: ASUKDL at GetThroughGuides dot com

If you are not already an AccountancyStudents member then register today in order to enter the draw. Remember to tell your friends and collegues so they can enter as well.

Closing date is 24 September 2008.

For terms and conditions can be found here.
