Hey everyone, first time post and having been reading these forums for a while, I’m taking the plunge and registering....I’m just graduated (from a non-accounts degree) but will be starting an accounting job next summer, and studying towards the ICAS qualification and will be mainly working in audit initially

Basically I wanted some advice on how best to prepare before then, is there anything I should/could read to give me a good start. I’m looking to get some temp work at the moment a) to get some experience and b) to make some cash but any advice in any shape or form would be appreciated

PS this post was posted on another forum, but there was no response there so hopefully there will be some response here

Hi to all

I am Paul Merison, a tutor based in London. I have been off the forums for a while, purely due to the joy of starting a business...but I was on here a lot in the past and I won Best New Contributor in the Awards of 2006.

I have been lecturing audit and similar subjects for the past 12.5 years and was nominated PQ Magazine Tutor of The Year 2007. These days I focus mainly on ACCA F8, P1 and P7, although I also teach ICAEW audit and assurance, and CIMA P3.

I was a tutor at Kaplan in London until the end of 2007, and was subject specialist on F8 and P1 - so I was the one who actually got to speak to the examiners.

In late 2007 I left Kaplan with a few colleagues to start our own place - The Accountancy College. After a very successful first 6 months, we joined forces with LSBF in London and we are now in the process of working together to build what we hope will be the leading finance and accountancy college. Or at least, that is the plan!

Hi Everyone

I would just like to introduce myself on here. I think this is a very informative site with good ‘community’ spirit - people are very helpful on here in general.

I hope to qualify in the not so distant future so I can progress in to accountancy.

Oh, I personally think there is far too much work to do in each exam, having sat 3 already since registering as a student…

Afternoon all.

Im studying ACCA and currently doing F4 and F5. I basically had a mid life crisis two years ago and shelved my old job (I was in Finance and Banking) and decided to follow something I had always wanted to do. Its been a steep learning curve as debits are now credits and vice versa! I decided to do my exams this year and so have finished F1,2 and 3. So Im pretty old for this accountancy lark at 39! I work for a small practice and have been preparing accounts for a year. To say I am pretty shell shocked is a bit of an understatement but its great to get my teeth into something new.

Hello everyone,

I think I might be a slightly unusual addition to this forum in that I’m not currently studying having already qualified with ACCA in 2002 via home study. However I just thought I would sign up just in case I might be able to provide any assistance to those who are currently studying.

I trained in a small practice in the UK and I have subsequently worked for a multi-national blue chip, and in the public sector. I have now gone full cirlce and returned to small practice.

Cheers
