HI

I don’t understand the TDM thing. Last year I had basically got 13 objectives filled in and signed off (covering 3 years) by my mentor. I do not think I have completed any different objectives during the year. When I go to the TDM now I still see the stuff I wrote last year.

What do I do? The experience I had this year was for a different company but overlapped with the objectives I have filled in.

Thanks,
Happy Xmas

I have been requested by my old boss who is reviewing my records dating back a year or two that I only do one narrative for each competency.

Hello

I’m just wondering how everyone’s getting on with the new PER now that it’s been around for a while. I’m particularly interested in hearing from anyone working in industry who might be in a similar situation to me.

I work in the finance department of a small-ish company, so on the Options side I’ve already managed to get [12. prepare financial information for management] signed off, and I should be able to achieve [13. contribute to budget planning and production] and [14. monitor and control budgets] in the not-too-distant future. My main problem is that my mentor and I are having trouble finding a suitable fourth option to go with these three.

Our financial statements are prepared by an accountancy firm (although I provide a lot of the information and check them), so that rules out [10]. In theory I could take this on, but even if the directors agreed to it, would one set of accounts a year really be enough to demonstrate “consistent performance over a period of time”? Similarly, our corporation tax returns are done by our accountants, which seems to rule out [19] (I do fill in the VAT returns and occasionally have to look things up to do with employees’ benefits, allowances etc., but I assume this isn’t enough). [15] might be an option, but it would depend on suitable investment opportunities arising.

The Essentials mostly look more straightforward, but I’m a bit unsure about [3. raise awareness of non-financial risk] and [9. manage an assignment] (the latter requires you to use project management tools and so on). What kind of things are other people doing to get these signed off, and how formal do you think you have to be with the risk assessment and project management?

Sorry that’s rather a lot to post in one go!

Hi

I have a couple of questions and hope u can answer them.

1 - I hve PREVIOUS relevant work experience. But my previous manager was not qualifie accountant. Can he still sign off my work?

2 - Am I correct to think that I can only achieve a performance objective once I have covered all the relevant study modules? For instance, for Performance Objective 11, the ‘Related Exams’ are F3, F7, P2. So I can only hope to achieve Performance Objective 11 once I have F3, F7 and P2 ??

3 - I started my Acca studies and experience in June 20007. I have NOT submitted PER Annual Retrn for 2007. What are the consequences for this?

4 - Who approves that I have achieved a performance objective? Is it ACCA or my workplace mentor that approves it?

It seems to me that most of the PER can only be completed once you are in the final stages of your studies.

Thanks

This is an email I sent to the ACCA after finally getting a follow-up email from a phone call I made at the beginning of December.

Do you reckon I’ll get a response before the end of February?

Hi Clare,

I cannot believe that it’s taken this long for someone to get back to me!

Two months ago, when I spoke to Simon about my TDM, we spent an hour and a half on the phone discussing it and he said that my entire TDM needed to be reset so that I could re-input everything.

I am totally appalled by the level (or lack of) customer service I’m receiving from the ACCA.

I received a hard copy of the TDM though the post the other day so that I can hand write the entire thing - I can only presume that this was some sort of joke given how long I’ve been waiting for my online TDM to be reset.

I was originally told it would take a couple of weeks.

Once you have finally got round to resetting it, how long will I have to re-input the data?

The reason I had so many problems in the first place was because I’ve had to cope with the poorly designed, confusing website which repeatedly crashes when I try to use it. I am by no means an internet amateur and of the dozens of other students I’ve spoken to, not one of them has found the experience even remotely simple or facile.

Please get back to me with information about when my TDM will be reset and how long I will have to transfer the information over from my STR and file a return.

Well this is all most confusing.

I posted a query here (on Friday) having filed my annual return with the option of notifying the ACCA that I had a completed STR ticked, but was uncomfortable because although the amount of months experience was now acknowledged on my ACCA page the fact that I had completed the elements of competence under the old system did not appear to be shown anywhere. It seems to want me to complete the TDM thingy as well?

I emailed ACCA at the same time and the auto acknowledgement of the query is in my inbox, so I know I didn’t imagine the whole thing, but I’ve no idea if anyone responded and am none the wiser as my post has disappeared… I didn’t swear or write anything defamatory or anything!!!

I’ll try again… Is this worrying lack of notification in my situation normal? Or should I be panicking?
