Afternoon all.

Im studying ACCA and currently doing F4 and F5. I basically had a mid life crisis two years ago and shelved my old job (I was in Finance and Banking) and decided to follow something I had always wanted to do. Its been a steep learning curve as debits are now credits and vice versa! I decided to do my exams this year and so have finished F1,2 and 3. So Im pretty old for this accountancy lark at 39! I work for a small practice and have been preparing accounts for a year. To say I am pretty shell shocked is a bit of an understatement but its great to get my teeth into something new.

Hello,

I’ve been searching in VAT books and on websites for ages, and can’t seem to find anything to help!

I’ve got a client who is the sole director of his company, and he has just purchased outright (not leased) an Aixam Mega City car, which is an electric car. He believes that he can claim the VAT on the purchase of this car.

Now, he will probably fall foul on the fact that he will struggle to show that the car is not being made available for intended private use, and so will not be able to claim it back anyway.

However, I was wondering if there were any special or overriding rules regarding the fact that it is an electric car?

I’m only interested in the ability to claim the input VAT back, not writing down allowances, fuel scale charges, or anything like that.

Thanks in advance,
